Curriculum Rationale
St Thomas More Language College provides a broad and balanced curriculum suitable for students of all abilities.
Students' baseline data is assessed at the beginning of Year 7 to highlight individual strengths and weaknesses including in literacy and numeracy and support is identified for EAL, SEND and the More and Most Able. Extra timetable support is provided during Year 7 to ensure no child is left behind and that they are prepared for their Year 8 curriculum.
The data recorded during year 7 & 8 assists the College in making provision to accommodate the needs of all students from Year 9 onwards. The new 9-1 GCSEs mean that many subjects are now using year 9 as a preparatory year for GCSE. Once students move into years 10 & 11 they follow a full cohort of GCSEs with some subjects offering alternative BTEC courses. Click here.
